Mayors on Lease
24.06.2008“Mayors on Lease: Prerequisites for the Widespread Buying of Votes in the 2007 Local Elections.” This is the title of a report by former Sofia ombudsman Antoaneta Tsoneva and her colleague Svetoslav Georgiev which RiskMonitor will present at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Sofia on July 8, 2008.
The report is the product of a year-long study conducted under a RiskMonitor project оn the institutional implosion of local government. Antoaneta Tsoneva and Svetoslav Georgiev describe and analyze the shifting majorities in municipal councils, the broker-status of mayors, the mediation activity of councilors acting as brokers, and a series of legislative and structural flaws that have led to the collapse of the institutions of local government.
The participants in the discussion will include sociologists, political analysts, NGO representatives, and journalists.
