Draft Strategy for Combating Money Laundering Adopted

The Council of Ministers adopted The Draft Strategy for Combating Money Laundering in Bulgaria at its regular meeting on August 24, 2011. The document was created under the initiative and coordination of RiskMonitor Foundation. This is the first national strategy to address the problems in thе area. Experts from the Foundation as well as representatives of the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office, National Investigation Service, Ministry of Interior, State Agency "National Security", Bulgarian National Bank, the Commission for Establishing of Property Acquired through Criminal Activity and other stakeholders contributed to the creation of the text.

The project was publicly presented at a roundtable in March 2011. The conference was held at The Granite Hall of the Council of Ministers under the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Mr. Tsvetan Tsvetanov. Institutions working on issues related to money laundering, lawmakers, academics, NGOsIn took part in that discussion.
