Markovska Pushed GERB to the Cliff

The chaos created by the nomination of Veneta Markovska to the Constitutional Court illustrates how procedural rules are handled in Bulgaria: as stage props for decisions made by someone else. The rift between procedures and transparency, until recently visible only to the trained observers, has in the past year become self-evident for everyone. The rules and regulations, intended to secure and guarantee the conditions of common sense in the national community, have been used as the façade for endless, behind-the-scenes deals. Whatever damage control should follow upon this lethal performance, it has to be a long list of resignation letters, not the usual political non-sense.
