Riots in the Independence Week

27.09.2011

September the nineteenth brought death and disorder to Katunitsa - a village in the district of Plovdiv. Henchmen of the alcohol boss Cyrill Rashkov ran over a 19 year old boy. In the ensuing protests the villagers burned the house and the cars of Rashkov. Many cities withessed public reactions that crossed the borders of law. According to publications more than 100 people have been arrested. The Chief Prosecutor called for immediate action against anyone who incites ethnic or religious hatred. On October 1 The Advisory Council on National Security will gather.

Analysts and NGOs seek the causes of the escalating turmoil in political speculation, in the weakness of the institutions to respond adequately, in the accumulated social problems and in the strong sense of injustice amongst population. The idea of ethnic intolerance, most visible in the messages of the marginal extremists, bypasses the nature of the dangerous instability mining the society.
