The counteraction of crimes in the forest sector and the implementation of the EU Timber Regulation 995/2010 were the main topics in the training seminar held from November 12-14, 2015,
organized by RiskMonitor Foundation. Seminar participants were representatives from the National Investigation Service,
the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice and non-governmental organizations. Key speakers included Mr. Martin Ivanov from the Regional Forest Directorate (Sofia),
who spoke about the enforcement of the Forestry Act in Bulgaria. Prof. Yordan Penev from the Academy of the Ministry of Interior
presented key issues connected with ecological crimes. Ms. Stefka Tzenova, a licensed forester and expert,
presented paractical case studies, while Mr Krassen Nikolov from Mediapool.bg discussed the results of several media investigations on topics related to crimes in the forest sector.
At a special session on the last day of the seminar, participants had a chance to discuss opportunities for further project collaboration between public bodies and research institutions
on topics of economic crime and security.

The seminar is organized within the TREES project (http://www.trees-project.eu/en/index.php), co-funded by the European Commission
